At the moment, the works are focusing on the completion of the Batuta Tunnel, the first railway tunnel built in Romania in the last 30 years. This tunnel is located on the left bank of the Mureș River, has a length of 603 meters, of which 586 meters of natural tunnel, single arch, with an excavation diameter of about 13 m and double track, is located on subsection 2B between Barzava and Ilteu. The tunnel has only one excavation face between two large running trenches. Given the length of the tunnel, the regulations only provide for technological or salvage niches.
