UNOPS in Peru

UNOPS has been working in Peru since 1995 providing infrastructure projects, procurement and advisory services, primarily seeking to provide technical assistance to help people improve their living conditions and contribute to peace and sustainable development. In all the projects presented, UNOPS will be in charge of the bidding and SEDAPAL will be the state entity in charge of signing and administering the contracts.

Drinking water supply and sanitation in the world’s second largest city in a desert

With the aim of shortening the gap (7%) in access to water and sewage services, as well as improving supply services in the city of Lima, SEDAPAL, within its investment plan for the year 2022, has considered the execution of various projects valued at more than S/.5000 million soles for the expansion, improvement and rehabilitation of drinking water and sewage services, mainly in networks, lines, civil works and home connections, to increase the coverage, quality and sustainability of sanitation services.

Through the agreements signed, SEDAPAL and UNOPS reaffirm their commitment to help close the gap and improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of Lima and Callao, as well as to achieve SDG No. 6 aimed at guaranteeing the availability of water and its sustainable management. , as well as sanitation for all .

Creation of a new Potable Water Treatment Plant and modernization of the ATARJEA Plant that supplies 80% of the population in Lima

Creation of New Plant No. 03: Improvements and technological alternatives will be proposed considering a treatment capacity of 10 m 3 /s The design of the automation, communication and SCADA system will be carried out; design of hydraulic, electrical and electromechanical equipment; and the design of a reagent building for storage of additives and equipment.

Improvement of Plant No. 01 The plant created in 1956, 65 years ago, will be rehabilitated and improved due to the existing risk determined by the Peruvian-Japanese Center for Seismic Research and Disaster Mitigation . (CISMID) in the structural wear of its decanters No. 01, 02, 03 and 04. Its treatment capacity will be increased from 7.5 m 3 /s to 10 m 3 /s, guaranteeing the quality of the treated water.

Assistance to SEDAPAL in 3 major works for Lima: 5th Territory, Comas and Independencia and José Gálvez

5th Territory

Support to SEDAPAL for the contracting of the execution of the work and supervision of the project for the expansion and improvement of drinking water and sewerage of the 5th Territory district in Villa El Salvador. The project consists of the installation of 3,000 m. driving lines, 655 m. of impulse line, 3,500 new home connections and 900 rehabilitated connections, the construction of 2 reservoirs and micrometering of drinking water.

Likewise, for the sewage system, 7 drainage areas are projected in supply sectors 318 and 323, collectors, overflow lines and home sewerage connections.

Comas and Independence

Support to SEDAPAL for the contracting of the execution of the work and supervision of the project for the expansion and improvement of drinking water and sewerage in the districts of Comas and Independencia.

16 reservoirs of more than 4,000 m 3 will be built, more than 11,000 m will be installed. of impulse line, 15,000 m. of trunk lines, 49,000 m. of secondary networks and 5,000 home drinking water connections. More than 5,000 home connections will also be installed, 46,000 m. of secondary collectors and 2,000 m. of overflow lines.

Jose Galvez

Support to SEDAPAL for the contracting of the execution of the work and supervision of the project to expand and improve the drinking water and sewage systems of the José Gálvez Scheme in Villa María Del Triunfo, and the Villa Alejandro Scheme in Lurín.

4 new service or supply areas are planned in addition to the 6 existing ones. Well P-713 will be rehabilitated and more than 69,000 m will be installed. of distribution networks and 7,700 m. will be rehabilitated, more than 6,000 drinking water connection units will be installed and more than 1,000 units will be rehabilitated.

A 2,300 m collector will be installed, as well as 47 mailboxes along its route, 12 overflow lines and 5,855 connections will be installed, and 1,508 sewerage connections will be rehabilitated.

Commercial and operational activities services

UNOPS supports SEDAPAL with the improvement and continuity of the services of commercial and operational activities that have been provided since 2010, for the year 2022-2027. To this end, it is expected to hire companies that, in addition to carrying out commercial, collection and customer service activities, will carry out a research study for the reordering of cycles, itineraries and AOL, and for updating the daily returns of the activities. . As a novelty, smart meters will be installed, in addition to mechanical meters to improve the control and monitoring of commercial activities.

Preventive maintenance of the primary collector network for the first time since its installation

With the objective of providing preventive maintenance to the 1,050 km of primary collectors, in addition to the corrective maintenance that SEDAPAL has been carrying out for more than 20 years, UNOPS supports the contracting of the preventive maintenance service for the primary collector network for the next 3 years, which reaches Ancón to the north, San Bartolo to the south, Chosica to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. In addition, 140 km of collector pipe will be changed and relocated using the trench method and 15 km using the trenchless method or trench technology (Pipe Bursting or cracking). As an innovation, real-time monitoring will be carried out, an advanced flow diversion gate remote control system will be implemented and mobile television inspections will be carried out.

Implementation of a standardized SCADA

Support to SEDAPAL for the contracting of the implementation and installation of the SCADA software and hardware (servers, loads, stations, switches), as well as all the functions available in the software for the management and operation of the primary distribution networks, boosting, La Atarjea and Huachipa plants. The cost of maintenance will be optimized, there will be a total integration between systems and remote stations, difficulties in processing and analysis will be eliminated. Ultimately, management will be improved.

Implementation of a Project Management Office (PMO)

The project consists of commissioning UNOPS for the selection process of the Specialized Technical Assistance Service for the implementation of a Project Management Office (PMO) for SEDAPAL’s project portfolio. The state company seeks to increase efficiency in the management of its strategic projects. With this, it will be possible to contribute to the improvement of public management in Peru by contracting a consulting company that will provide specialized support to SEDAPAL.

​Assistance for contracting the design of water and sanitation projects

Currently, 9 additional agreements are being signed for the commissioning of preparatory actions and selection procedure for the contracting, during the year 2022, of the consulting service for the preparation of 09 technical files: for the improvement of the San Bartolo WWTP, San Juan de Miraflores and Ventanilla (Stage 2); for the improvement and expansion of the drinking water and sewage networks in the districts of Chorrillos, Surquillo, Barranco and Santiago de Surco; for the improvement of collector No. 6 in the Rímac district and for the construction of large-capacity reservoirs La Menacho and Vicentelo in the district of El Agustino.
