With the Tap pipeline, 10 percent of the gas consumed in Italy arrives: the Skywall

In the ongoing natural gas shortage, the Tap gas pipeline, which arrives in Puglia, imported 4.6 billion cubic meters into Italy in the first nine months of operation. THE SKYWALLl

We are in the midst of a real energy crisis, a historical shortage of gas , the price of hich has skyrocketed. Fortunately, our country is better off than other European states, partly due to the Tap (Trans Adriatic Pipeline), completed at the end of 2020, which connects Puglia with Azerbaijan. In fact, the pipeline is worth up to 10 per cent of Italian natural gas supplies.

From January to October, TAP imported 4.6 billion cubic meters of gas into Italy. Another billion has already crossed the Greek-Turkish border and is ready to arrive on our territory. By the end of the year, the company – through the voice of Luca Schieppati (managing director of Tap) interviewed on Sky TG24 Business – declared that it could reach up to 7 billion. It would mean just under 10 percent of the national consumption of natural gas, which in Italy reaches just over 70 billion cubic meters according to Mise data . A contribution that can only help us in a period of serious shortage like the current one.COMMERCIAL

How much is the Tap worth

The pipeline is remembered above all for the protests of the No-Tap, activists who feared the landscape of Melendugno (Lecce), where the infrastructure reaches Italy running 15 meters under the ground, at risk. The Tap is 878 km long and has a maximum range of 20 billion cubic meters of gas. The consortium that built it – which also includes the Italian Snam – declares that it cost 4.5 billion euros, financed with private capital with the contribution of EIB loans.

Luca Schieppati announced that the TAP “within five years will transport, in addition to gas, also hydrogen and biomethane with the existing infrastructures”. The managing director also stated that thanks to the pipeline, the differential in the cost of hydrocarbon between Italy and Northern Europe, equal to 10 per cent, would have been canceled.
